Setting Up Your Home for Mobile Therapy
One of the biggest benefits of Play. Learn. Progress. is that I come to you! Mobile therapy allows your child to learn in their natural environment. However, a little preparation can go a long way in making each session successful.
Minimize Distractions
The most helpful thing you can do is turn off the TV and background noise. It can be hard for children to focus on speech sounds if a cartoon is playing in the background. If siblings are present, I love to include them when appropriate, but sometimes having a separate activity for them is helpful if the client needs focused attention.
Space to Play
I don't need a formal classroom! A clear spot on the living room floor, a small child-sized table, or even the kitchen table works great. I bring the toys and materials, so I just need a safe, comfortable space to spread out.
Therapy can also take place in other areas of your home if that is what motivates your child. This may include the backyard, a trampoline, a playroom, or another favorite space. When children are engaged and comfortable, learning often happens more naturally.
I am happy to be flexible and work in the environment that best supports your child’s success.
Seating
For table-top work (often used for older children or feeding therapy), proper seating is key. I want your child's feet to be supported (not dangling) so their core is stable. A stable body supports a stable mouth!
Don't worry about cleaning your house before I arrive—I am there to work with your child, not judge your home! I understand that life with kids is messy and busy.
